How to make Banana and Caramel Trifle

by | Recipes

We discovered this recipe a while back when 4 families including ours decided to do progressive dinners.  This is when we go to the first family’s house and have drinks (non-alcoholic) I think one time we had fancy Hot Chocolates, Milk shakes and slushies. Next Families place we have entree, third family will do main meal and the last family does dessert.

So, we were looking for something different to have for dessert when we came across this recipe. I don’t like trifle. Hate how the jelly makes the cake go soggy and I really don’t like tin fruit. In this recipe there is no jelly and no tin fruit.

It looks so yummy. The first time we dished it up our friend Ash said it was a pretend trifle as its missing some key elements for it to be a trifle. Nether the less there was none left after the meal. It was very good, and I am very happy to make this dish again.

We have been invited to Daniel best mates for dinner tonight and they asked us to bring dessert. I haven’t made Banana and Caramel Trifle for a long time so we decided I would make it for dessert tonight. I Will also take ice cream for the children as I don’t think many of them like it. Liam doesn’t like bananas and Josh doesn’t like caramel. That’s all good because it means more for us.

Ingredients

380g can of caramel top’n’fill

600ml thickened cream

2 tablespoons icing sugar mixture

1 teaspoon vanilla essence

225g rectangle unfilled sponge

3 large Bananas sliced

1/3 cup dry roasted hazelnuts chopped.

Put Caramel and ¼ cup cream in a bowl and whisk until smooth. Using a electric mixer (I use my Thermomix) beat icing sugar, vanilla and the rest of the cream until soft peaks form.

Cut the cake into 3cm pieces. Arrange half over the base of the bowl. Spoon half of the caramel mixture over the cake. Top with half the bananas and half the cream mixture. Repeat with the remaining ingredients finishing with the cream mixture. Sprinkle with the nuts and serve.

Dessert was a great success tonight everyone liked it. Once again the bowl was empty much to Daniels disappointment as he was hoping there was left overs to eat while we were watching a movie when we got home and all the kids were in bed.
