Saving Money by Buying Meat in Bulk
Being a large family our shopping bill can be quite expensive especially since the meat prices have gone up due to COVID 19.
We saved up some money and I went to see our local butcher and asked about purchasing a side of beef ( half a cow). They cut it all up and packaged it the way we asked.
The butcher said “ yes we can give you another side of beef but it costs a little more than last time you got it because the beef prices have gone up.
We haven’t purchased a meat pack this year because once we got back from holidays COVID was just starting up we stocked our freezer with lots of frozen items, it didn’t occur to me to grab a beef pack. Last year it was $10.90 per kilo. This time it was $11.90 a kilo.
It’s a great savings.
Rump steak is the main steak we would buy and this is $27.99 a kilo so we are paying less than half. Three star mince is $13 a kilo has quite a bit of fat in it. The mince we get with the beef pack is not as fatty so more like 4 or 5 stars which cost a lot more than $13. Not very often but occasionally we get scotch fillet steak. Which normally goes for $40 a kilo, you can see why we don’t get it very often.
With the prices you see above it’s a huge savings.
This time the meat pack has 60 meals in it. We had to get more put in each pack as the children are eating more these days. We tailored the pack to more summer cuts especially since it’s bbq weather. The meat is so tender and tasty.
It’s a big outlay to begin with $1100 this time but it does save a lot of money over the long run. There is more money to spend on other items. We do buy other meat like chicken and fish while we have the meat pack so it lasts more than 60 days. If you can afford to buy in bulk it’s a great way to save and have products you wouldn’t normally eat like the scotch fillet that we get in this pack.
