How to make Savoury Mince

by | Recipes

The first time my family had this meal was when I had been called into work for the day and I had to quickly organise something quick and simple for Daniel to do for dinner.

OK a simple meal, so I went to my slow cooker central book. Found the Savoury mince recipe put a bookmark in it got all the ingredients organised and explained to Daniel what was for dinner.

On my lunch break I called Daniel to make sure dinner was in the slow cooker and that he had no questions on what to do. Slow cooking is very easy normally throw everything in the slow cooker and turn it on. He said everything was all good and it was cooking well.

I returned home from work to a lovely aroma dinner smelt so good. Daniel was like I will let you dish it up as there doesn’t seem to be much there. When I had a look I though mm mm that won’t be enough to feed us all.  So, I buttered some bread, I remember as a child having bread after almost every meal. Especially if it had gravy or some sort of sauce to wipe the bread in.

It doesn’t look very nice came the reply from most of the children when I ask them nicely to sit at the table for dinner. Just try it before you say you don’t like it.

Everyone loved it and wanted seconds but there were no seconds to give. I have adjusted the recipe to suit our family. Added a extra 250g of mince and 2 more cups of mixed vegetables. Since that first time of trying this meal Chantelle calls it goo and asks for it all the time.

Ingredients

500g lean mince

2 teaspoons of minced garlic

2 cups diced mixed veggies (fresh or frozen)

1 beef stock cube

400g tin of condensed tomato soup

1 onion diced

2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce

2 tablespoons of barbecue sauce

2 tablespoons tomato sauce

1 tablespoon instant gravy mix

½ cup water

Put all the ingredients in a slow cooker and stir to combine. Season with salt and pepper. Cover and cook on low for 6 hours. We have bread and butter with this dish. So yummy to rub the bread around the bowl to get the last bits out of the bowl. The book recommends mashed potato to accompany this meal.

The original recipe can be found on page 108 in the Slow Cooker Central recipe book. I doubled this recipe once and took it to a potluck dinner and it was the first lot to run out and I was asked to make more for the next one. I hope you enjoy this as much as my friends and family do.
