Frozen Chips v’s Home-Made Chips
When I was a child my dad would cut up potatoes to make us homemade chips. We never had much money growing up, I’m not sure if you could buy frozen chips from the supermarket back then, if you could we never had them I assume this would have been because money was tight. It was a huge treat to get cooked chips from the fish and chip shop.
Fast forward many years Daniel and I brought frozen chips, often deep fried them as a family we love chips. A few years ago as much as 5-10, Daniel wanted chips with dinner but we had no frozen chips in the freezer.
I told him I would cut up some potatoes and make homemade chips. He seemed a bit skeptical but said yeah ok.
Using a knife I cut the potatoes into thin skinny strips, heated the deep fryer and put them in.
Shake them halfway so they don’t stick together.
And there you have chips cut from potatoes.
Daniel was impressed with the result and asked if we can have these chips more often.
Being so many of us now it takes a while to cut that many potatoes. I don’t peel the potato any more as that takes a long time and normally if we are having chips it’s supposed to be quick and easy. I haven’t stopped buying frozen chips. We still get them occasionally as sometimes it’s nice not to have to prepare them.
This is where Amazon came in handy a few years ago, We brought a chip cutter so quick and easy.

Fantastic fries chip cutter. I loved this chip cutter so simple to use. And good for when you were frustrated as you could bang it.
2 the next one we got from ebay. This one is good it also has a container to collect the chips in. It also comes with different attachments so you can slice and cut ect. The only reason we got a new one is it’s not dishwasher safe and even after telling the kids not to put it in the dishwasher it still went in there a few times so the catcher is buckled. I can still use it. I can get the lid to attach to the bottom but most of the children can not.
3 is a very similar design to number 2. It’s a bit longer
4 we brought because it looks like the watermelon cutter we bought years ago and you had to be very strong to be able to use it
5. We got this one as a novelty because it makes curly fries and hogs breath near us has closed down Logan makes comments here and there about wanting curly fries
My favourite two chip cutters are number 1 and number 2.
We are having a chip shortage in Australia at the moment so making homemade ones is becoming more common.
